Approach

      Viens

The village offers all facilities needed for a stay of quality: town hall, Post office, groucery, terraced bar-restaurant, baker's and confectioner's shop, market on wednesday.

A sightseeing of the old village (12th and 13th Century) should not be missed. You will find so much treasurs in it : the old belfry and washtub, and then if you cross the ramparts the stone-built streets, the medieval and Renaissance buildings, the Romanesque doors (12th and 13th Century), the Saracen towers now converted into flats.

Inside the village, you will find a Romanesque bell tower (1295), which is a listed building, a contemporary fresco on the vault of the church, an old olive oil mill drilled in the rock, the Ponteves mansion (16th C.), an old fountain and the Saint Ferréol church (on the Oppedette road).

On a wall of the old washtub, a map shows the walks you can do from the village, through lavender fields. During the summer, the castleyard becomes a stage.

You must also visit the Valsaintes abbey, "Boulinette", which is a real jewel just a few miles ago from Viens.
